There are four simultaneous scoping sessions taking place in Atlanta, Chicago, San Diego and virtually.  The goals of the CoPe scoping initiative are to generate community recommendations to inform research needs related to coastlines and people.  In particular, we are interested in:

  • Broadening participation - How to make CoPe inclusive from the onset?
  • Research Opportunities and Gaps - What might be all the exciting research areas that CoPe can pursue?
  • Organization of CoPe - How should CoPe be structured to best serve all its stakeholders efficiently?

We will do this over the course of two days by exploring each of the above areas in detail and generating lots of options for potential recommendations.  Thereafter, we will cull these down to the most promising, appropriate and valuable recommendations.  Small teams will form around these and the recommendations will be fleshed out into three-minute presentations and short white papers.  These will be shared with the broader community for feedback on Friday, September 28th via a live stream on the http://coastlineasndpeople.org website.
