Welcome to the Innovation Lab website.

We are delighted that you are able to join us for this event. In preparation for the lab, we would like you to do three things:

  • Explore the background reading/viewing content. In particular, please look at the content in the Start Here section.
  • Add to the background reading section. Each of you brings a unique perspective to this challenge. What would you recommend for us all to read? Please add your suggestions to the comments box, at the bottom of the reading list page
  • Learn about your fellow participants.

What to bring?

Almost everything you will need to participate in the event will be provided. However, it is worth mentioning a couple of things:

  • It will be useful to bring your computer, or iPad. You will find it helpful for both accessing publications, and drafting research ideas
  • The hotel has a gym, and a small swimming pool, so if you like to exercise, please bring your sports wear of choice

What to wear?

Innovation labs are completely informal events. So, we encourage you to wear whatever makes you comfortable, and creative. We won't be doing anything messy, but you might find yourself sitting on the floor, drawing a complex diagram, so haute coture is probably best avoid.  There again, if designer clothes fire your imagination, we fully support your choice.

Logistics Q&A

This event will take place in the Encore Ballroom (2nd floor off the main lobby) at the Embassy Suites Buffalo (200 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14202). For driving directions to the hotel, please click here.

Ground Transportation: Embassy Suites Buffalo provides an airport shuttle between 7 AM and 10 PM for $10 each trip. Guests must call(716) 842-1000 to arrange pick-up time. Each participant will receive $10 reimbursement towards each one-way trip between the airport and hotel. Alternatively, guests may utilize Uber and submit receipts for reimbursement up to $10 each transport. 

The lodging is covered up to 5 nights* in advance (no payment required) for the following nights:

·         Sunday, November 5th  (Check in at 4pm)

·         Monday, November 6th

·         Tuesday, November 7th

·         Wednesday, November 8th

·         Thursday, November 9th

You will have your own guest room reserved under your name, and will be emailed your confirmation number, based on travel arrangements. Please provide travel arrangements with Erin O’Byrne (erinobyr@buffalo.edu) for reimbursement and hotel accommodations. 

Parking: For any participants driving, please indicate to Valet you are with the CTSI group for no required payment. 

*Any rooms nights above what is provided will be at the participants’ expense.

The meal plan (2 meals per day*) for each person is covered (no payment required) starting with lunch on Monday, November 6th and ending with lunch on Friday, November 10th. Depending on your arrival time, dinner on Sunday, November 5th will be reimbursed per diem ($48). Breakfast is provided for all guests at the Cary Street Café located behind City Press off the main lobby (between 6:00 and 9:30 AM Monday through Friday). Breaks will be provided in the morning or afternoon each day outside the meeting room; buffet lunches and dinners will be arranged in the Salon Room (directly across the Encore room). If you have any dietary restrictions, allergies, or requests, please inform ErinO’Byrne (erinobyr@buffalo.edu).

*Anything above what is provided for meals and breaks during the Lab is at the participants’ expense.
