• What would you like us to know about you?

  I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). My research is in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP) with a particular interest in semantics, the process of analyzing the meaning of text. Specific areas of interest include: word sense disambiguation, biomedical and clinical text processing, semantic similarity and relatedness, information extraction, and lexical semantics. Prior to VCU, I was a Research Scientist at Securboration, a small company in Cary, NC, and a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care & Health Systems at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I received my PhD in 2009 from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. During my studies, I worked in interdisciplinary R & D labs at the Mayo Clinic and Thomson-Reuters as well as participated in the National Institute of Health's National Library of Medicine's Research Participation Program.
