• What would you like us to know about you?

  I am the Director of the Gulf States Health Policy Center, housed at BayouClinic in Bayou La Batre, AL. I previously worked in research and community development for the Community Foundation of South Alabama and the Economic & Community Development Institute at Auburn University. I also worked for five years as a domestic violence Victim Advocate. I currently serve as Chair of the Mobile United Health Task Force, Vice President of the Bayou La Batre Chamber of Commerce, and Vice President of the Alabama Folklife Association Board of Directors. I am a graduate of Auburn University (MS, rural sociology) and Kenyon College (BA, religion). I am the author of Once You Know This, a novel for middle grade readers (Random House/Delacorte Press) and The Story of Alabama in Fourteen Foods (forthcoming, University of Alabama Press). I grew up in Minnesota and now live in Mobile, AL with my husband, Andrew, and our four children.
