    Bio: Dr. Robert W. Dickey is Director of the University of Texas at Austin, Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) and Chairman of the Department of Marine Science, College of Natural Sciences Robert joined UTMSI in 2013 as the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Regents Chair in Marine Science after serving 28 years with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. At FDA Robert led research programs and science-based responses to food-borne illness outbreaks, international trade issues and national emergencies such as the 2010 Deep Water Horizon oil spill. He served on the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology and as senior science advisor to FDA Commissioner and Surgeon General among other leadership roles. Robert’s research interests are in the areas of marine natural toxins, environmental chemistry and toxicology, and analytical methods development. Robert now leads the UTMSI, a University of Texas at Austin center for higher education, research and outreach with a global reach. The Institute is dedicated to advancing knowledge of estuarine, coastal and blue water oceans through objective inquiry and research; training future generations of marine scientists, and raising ocean literacy of the general public and societal leaders through diverse education outreach programs.
